Six Years

It’s 8:46 and silence
fills the radio show.
It has been Six Years since the day
the world would come to know.

The day a bright blue sky turned black
with plumes of heavy smoke.
The day terrorists came to town
waiting on us to choke.

As a nation we stood up tall
and buried the fallen –
our loved ones and friends, the police,
the heroes and firemen.

We knew the world would not stop though
at times we wished it would.
We get up each morning because
we know we simply should.

The silence has ended and church
bells start to ring for each
of those who lost their lives that day.
Now we just pray for peace.

As I listen to the tolling,
cold chills run up my spine.
There’s sadness for the innocent.
No way to turn back time.

As I think back to those events,
my eyes fill up with tears.
The pain still in my heart
although it’s been Six Years.
